 Of the three filesystems I've tried so far:

  * encfs fails to link; it wants fuse_unmount_compat22 which appears not
 to be provided by libfuse4x
  * sshfs builds but spends all of its time spinning in sem_wait,
 presumably because of the issue you found where

 sem_init is not supported]
  * bindfs works if run as root. As a normal user, I get a permission
 error: `fuse4x failed to mount /dev/fuse4x1 to /private/tmp/foo :
 Operation not permitted`
