Comment:

 It was also [http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-
 users/2011-June/024442.html reported on the mailing list], where it was
 suggested that a "_select" binary should have been left behind, with the
 sole purpose of printing an error message advising the user how to use
 "port select". This seems like a great idea, and would avoid these many
 tickets being filed and users being confused.
