 It is a recurrent issue with atlas.
 According e.g. to [http://www.mail-archive.com/sage-
 devel at googlegroups.com/msg25971.html] it should be possible for MacPorts
 to mitigate this issue, by following the suggestion
   never by default run the atlas tuning scripts (that take 12+ hours).  If
 there is no known default for the machine, find the closest, and print and
 huge warning message about this
