 maintainer's blessing (via email). Thanks for your patience. Please use a
 new ticket for future updates.

 For the record, the python26 variant works if you add the following code
 to each script:

 sys.path.append('/opt/local/lib/root')
 import ROOT
 }}}

 I'm open to a better solution which does not require setting the
 LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
