 My suspicion is that something in MacPorts is configured to look in
 root/usr instead of opt/local/usr. Does that sound accurate to you?

 If that is the case, how do I configure MacPorts to go around this?

 If that is not the case, have you seen this before? Can you point me to a
 ticket I should be looking at to resolve this?
