 OK.  Sorry the version of Perl in /opt/local/bin is 5.8.9.  I seem to have
 5.8.8 installed via Fink.

 Is there a way to modify the port (at my end) or to roll back the MacPort
 version of perl to 5.8.8 to allow the install.

 Actually the sudo port install rpm installed 5.8.8 then updated it to
 5.8.9 as it was installing rpm.
