Comment:

 Using -n will necessarily cause problems like this because it stops port
 from upgrading dependencies before their dependents. (Using -f in everyday
 operation is also a bad idea.) You'll probably need to do something like
 this to fix things:
 {{{
 sudo port -R upgrade --force dependentof:libpng
 }}}
