Comment:

 Lots of things fail to build correctly if you have stuff in /usr/local -
 if you have include/dlfcn.h there, it is probably what is causing your
 problem.

 The general recommendation is to move aside /usr/local (and move it back
 if you need it, after your build succeeds). I did just verify that openssl
 builds fine on 10.6.7 (so the problem you are experiencing isn't a bug
 with the port, but a problem with your system).
