 I left my computer running all night after "sudo port install atlas" and
 the process completed normally.  I went on and completed "sudo port
 install py26-gnuplot" and that completed as well.  The only change I made
 to my environment was to update to Xcode 3.2.6 from 3.2.3.  Thanks for
 your help! I think my problem is fixed.
