 It builds fine for me on my Tiger system.

 It's interesting that on your system neither the environment variables
 that are passed to `make` by the Portfile -- CC, CXX, CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS,
 LDFLAGS -- nor the variables defined in the Makefile -- VERSION, CHANGESET
 -- are getting used.

 What version of Xcode is installed? I'm using Xcode 2.5, and you should
 too.

 What version of make is /usr/bin/make? Mine is GNU Make 3.80.
