 The entry that caused problems was:

   default = upstream
 }}}

 it complained that `upstream` wasn't a valid option. This is a valid
 option for recent git versions but not older ones, like is supplied with
 Xcode4. The point is that why is MacPorts using the system git to fetch
 sources in preference to the MacPorts git?
