 Usually, I would agree with you that this issue should be fixed upstream.
 Hence, I reported the issue. However, in this case I'm not sure if llvm-
 gcc4.2 is generating correct code even though it doesn't report an error.
 Declaring a C array with an integer variable specifying its size leads to
 undefined behavior. Therefore, I would prefer the patch to be applied to
 the Ipe 7.1.1 source code. The patch can be removed once it is fixed
 upstream.
