Comment:

 I cannot install nor test `mpich2` because all my tools are
 `openmpi`-related.

 My understanding is that `mpich2` is deprecated these days in favour of
 `openmpi`.

 Can you '''uninstall''' `mpich2` and upgrade your `mpi4py`? It should use
 `openmpi` by default now.
