 I don't know what file you're getting, but the file
 http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/freetype/freetype-2.4.7.tar.bz2
 (1490543 bytes) has the checksums indicated in the portfile. Clean and try
 again?

 {{{
 sudo port clean --all freetype
 sudo port install freetype
 }}}

 If that still doesn't work, examine the file you got and see what's wrong
 with it. Is it a valid .tar.bz2 archive?
