 Hi, a quick update on this situation.

 We had to spend some time on other issues, but after testing various paths
 and compiling transfig manually it turns out that this probably is a
 problem with Imake and the string "i386" in the path were the software was
 installed to. We got the same error while trying a manual compilation, so
 the problem is not related to MacPorts itself. Issue is resolved by using
 an install path without the string "i386" in it. Works great in MacPorts.

 Ticket can probably be closed now.
