 Indeed, in several places, the configure script calls "grep" without a
 prefix, which will find a possibly broken MacPorts version. And the
 Makefiles call "sed" similarly. I think we're going to have to give up on
 the idea of being able to install gettext while broken grep or sed ports
 are installed, and instead test for them and halt and ask users to
 uninstall them first.
