 Ok, the developer has asked that we read the file unix/PLATFORMS. The
 possibly relevant text I see in there says:

 If you get an error message mentioning "handle_fault", then generational
 GC
 is not working. Add -DNO_GENERATIONAL_GC to the CFLAGS and recompile.
 }}}

 So we should try that. I'll attach a patch that does this. Could you apply
 it and let me know if it works?
