 The problem still occurs. However, I worked around it. I downloaded
 openssl-1.0.0.e from macports http://distfiles.macports.org/openssl/. This
 has the correct checksum. I then copied this to the proper place and re-
 issued the install command and everything worked. The macports was getting
 the troublesome distribution from http://www.openssl.org/source/ instead
 of a macports location (see the main.log attached above). I'm guessing
 this is why things turned to custard. port was looking for
 openssl-1.0.0e_0.darwin_11.x86_64.tbz2 at the macports site and couldn't
 find it.
