 Sorry for not replying in a while. I actually solved the problem the same
 day as i created the ticket here...

 Apparently there are two different variants of octave: Atlas and
 Accelerate. I don't really know the difference between the two variants,
 but since Atlas didn't work i just tried to install the other one instead.
 So I wrote something like
 {{{
 port install octave +accelerate +gcc45
 }}}
 and it worked. I have not used octave so much since the installation, only
 simple contour plotting, but it works fine..
