 I'm sorry, i'm not skilled enough to fix the port. However a temporary
 solution is to use Octave-Forge packages:

 {{{
 octave:9> pkg install -auto -global -forge statistics
 }}}

 Note that it requires Octave "miscellaneous" package, that can be
 installed from macports:

 {{{
 Euridice:~ carmine$ sudo port install octave-miscellaneous
 }}}
