I've googled for the error message and it seems it could well be an error
in failing to link with some gcc library. ___emutls_get_address is part of
gcc45. octave is the only program I have that requires gcc45
Here is the output of octave. Once started it takes 50% of the CPU and can
only be killed with killall -KILL octave
