 Just to add additional info:

 If you have installed Xcode 4.2.x and the unix command line tools but
 still receive the error message:

 /usr/bin/xcodebuild -version
 Error: No developer directory found at /Developer. Run /usr/bin/xcode-
 select to update the developer directory path.

 Then you need to switch manually to the new Xcode install dir in
 /Applications:

 sudo /usr/bin/xcode-select -switch /Applications/Xcode.app
