 In my use of the mysql55 and mysql55-server ports the
 /opt/local/etc/mysql55/my.cnf file is read and my socket file is created
 where I specified.

 Do you have other mysql based ports installed?

 Is there a mysqld at /opt/local/libexec/mysqld?

 After loading mysql55-server what does ps show?

 $ ps ax | grep mysql
 }}}
