We do the best we can with limited available resources. We are unpaid
volunteers working on MacPorts in our spare time.
I don't know what the distinction is that links is trying to make between
"openssl" and "OpenSSL"; I agree that's weird but it's a question you'd
have to ask the developers of links.
Please attach the config.log; maybe it has more information about why
configure failed. Configure succeeds for me, but I have a different OS X &
Xcode version than you.
