 eventually apple is expecting far too much work from US - blank passwrds
 for main/admin users are pretty common on a stand alone dev system to
 avoid entering USER & PASSWORD each time we start-up (bootstrap) & switch
 on  the laptop . had no clue about ROOT user shell environment, didn't
 have any problem in Lion (10.7).
