 Oh man, I missed this comment (it seems that these don't forward to
 email?). Sure, I'd be happy to take ownership … but I have no committers
 rights :-/ I really would like to have a unified port for this since it's
 blocking the update for py3x-matplotlib (well, with the +cairo variant).
