 Again when I try to install ncurses by itself it does not work.

 My OS is Lion and my version of Xcode is 4.2.1. I am running the latest
 version of MacPorts and it is completely up to date.

Comment:

 This sounds like #29223, for which the solution is to
 [http://guide.macports.org/chunked/project.html#project.tickets.prerequisites
 clean and try again], which you should try anytime any port fails to
 build.

 sudo port clean zlib ncurses
 }}}

 If it fails again, please attach the main.log file.
