Comment:

 Those syntax errors are caused because HexFiend uses anonymous lambda-
 style functions introduced with grand central dispatch in 10.6 (see
 https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#featuredarticles/BlocksGCD/_index.html).
 There unfortunately is no way to get this code running on any system
 before 10.6.

 I'm afraid you'll probably be stuck at an older version of HexFiend via
 wiki:howto/InstallingOlderPort.
