Comment:

 You're not rebuilding the correct port; `perl5` is only a meta-port
 installing a couple of symlinks to your actual perl installation. Rebuild
 the perl5.12 port to fix the problem.

 Although there was no follow-up to the mail on -users, I can confirm
 rebuilding your perl fixes the problem (at least it did for me).
