 A raw reference to "gcc" will result in an error, since macports _never_
 uses just "gcc".

 It (paraphrasing—do research this) uses gcc-4.2 on 10.5, llvm-gcc-4.2 on
 10.6 with xcode 4.1, clang on 10.7.
