 There is no other software running which access the scanner, although I
 don't really know what Mac OS does when a USB-Scanner is plugged in.

 I am running Mac OS Lion 10.7.2 and no other software was running when I
 tried "scan image -L".

 Or is there a possibility to block MacOS from accessing the scanner or
 other USB devices?
