New description:

 Newly installed MacOSX 10.8.
 XCode commandline tools and port are up to date.

 Error: and does not have a universal variant.

Comment:

 Duplicate of #35344. Don't know why it happens. Install wxWidgets'
 dependencies (e.g. jpeg, etc.) with the universal variant manually.
