 Same problem here.

 When I do the commands shown after “:debug:configure Executing command
 line:” in the main.log manually, configure does not stop but seems to
 work. I can do a “make install” afterwards without getting an error.
 Unfortunately, MacPorts does still not consider gettext installed. Doing
 “port install gettext” afterwards still shows the same pathological
 behavior.
