 I have had the same issue attempting to install and configure PHP
 extensions. Apparently something in MacPorts requires perl 5.8 which isn't
 even a recent version. Please let me know when this has been fixed. I am
 not sure if adding a comment to this ticket is appropriate but definitely
 want support to realize this is an issue that is in all likelihood
 affecting many users.
