 I was having the same problem, whilst trying to reinstall ports after
 upgrading to 10.8 Mountain Lion. I'm using mac ports 2.1.2. Doing a
 selfupdate didn't fix it for me. I had to rebuild the port index:


 {{{
 cd /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/ports
 sudo portindex -f
 }}}

 After this, XviD could be found again.
