 I am curious why MacPorts doesn't use more system libraries. I was
 surprised when it installed Perl, libffi, ncurses, and libiconv. Doesn't
 Mac OS X already have those libraries? Why build our own? Are the Apple-
 supplied versions out-of-date or incomplete?
