 Ok, I apologize for the thrash. Apparently if you use anything other than
 a trivial single-file build, dsymutil needs to be run as a separate step
 in order to get gcc to generate the exe.dSYM directory. I have no idea why
 they changed this, but it's really silly and counterintuitive:

 So, I have my answer, and there's nothing wrong with valgrind. Thanks for
 your patience.
