Comment:

 The problem I was running into was that this project's non-autoconf
 configure script didn't recognize the --disable-dependency-tracking
 option. Just removing that, however, and adding the proper -arch flags,
 got us to the familiar "-E, -S, -save-temps and -M options are not allowed
 with multiple -arch flags" error. So I just disabled the universal variant
 for now in r91249. Perhaps this can be improved later, e.g. using the
 muniversal portgroup.
