 The most recent change was to switch the default variant, I doubt that
 would have effect in this case. Just to rule that out, does using the
 gcc44 varient result in the same error? That will probably result in
 downloading the pre-built package, so can you pass the -s option to port
 for force a build from source, i.e.

 sudo port -s install py26-scipy +gcc44
 }}}
