port sync", and the version of m4 was changed by this sync, then the m4
portfile was updated. Next time you tried to build m4, MacPorts would have
noticed the portfile was newer than your build attempt, and thrown out the
previous build attempt. So I cannot explain why it did not do so.
Does this problem manifest only when using the ports tarball and not
Portfiles? I'm wondering if the timestamps only get checked properly in
one case and not the other.
