Comment:

 I did not find problem with mpich2 +clang (or nothing on Lion) but mpich2
 +gcc44 and +gcc45. I stopped supplying -arch flags for mpich2. Committed
 in r92596. openmpi does not seem to have this problem since +gcc4x
 variants only set fortran compiler.
