 Fixed it. Turns out i was using gnutar and not the default bsdtar, and
 that was causing problems. Earlier, i changed to gnutar, coz i could not
 untar a tar file i created on linux. I have now sucessfully re-installed
 python27 and openssh and things seem to be working normally now.
 This ticket can be closed.
