 Do you have any clue, what the patch in question aims to achieve?
 Can you point me in the right direction, so I can read about it myself, or
 maybe get in touch with whoever submitted the patch?

 We are a hosting company in Denmark, and our DNS depends on this variant,
 so it's sort of a big deal for us:)
