 Thanks for that tip. Yes, that seems to be the problem. Unfortunately I
 think the boost developers distribute a snippet that explicitly searches
 /opt/local and /usr/local for dependencies, so that nonsense makes its way
 into many programs that use boost, and need to be patched out in each such
 program.
