 Thank you again for this information.

 I looked at the wiki, it said the following: "Take a moment to compare
 each line of your macports.conf with the corresponding line in
 macports.conf.default in the same directory. Unless you know a reason why
 a line your settings file should be different from the defaults, adopt the
 line from the defaults file."

 How do I edit this macports.conf file? Is there a specific editor I use?
 Do I first have to unarchive the file?

 I reinstalled macports, per the wiki. However, I have not uninstalled and
 then reinstalled my ports. I tried again to install md5sha1sum with the
 same result, and the log still shows i386 (attached for reference...
