Comment:

 I'm going to close this, since it was reported years ago against php 5.2
 which is by now several versions out of date; since I was never able to
 reproduce it; and since the problem described sounds like it is (or was) a
 bug in PHP, and not a bug in the way MacPorts installs PHP.
