 I understand. Thanks for finding the root cause of the problem.

 I changed my Symbolic Link of usr/bin/tar from MacPorts installed gnutar
 to usr/bin/bsdtar (version 2.8.3), and was able to update my MacPorts (no
 more Python27 problems).
