 SIgh... undoubtedly the issue... xcode was just updated 2 or 3 weeks ago,
 and you'd think you would not have to do that with every update!
 (First Macports update since then.)

 This was like pulling teeth to fix.... spent the afternoon at the dentist
 :(

 For some reason /usr/share/xcode-select/* was always showing up as
 rw------- on execution of
 $ sudo xcode-select -switch /Applications/Xcode.app

 Yeah, root umask is 077 as is my account. Just surprising that something
 like xcode-select would honor it.

 THEN, just to make matters more annoying. There are two items in that
 directory. A file and a link to that file.
 Simply making the file +og was not enough.
 One had to chmod -h the LINK file also!

 AND THEN ... it still failed ... it wasn't happy with
 $ xcodebuild -license
 but demanded
 $ sudo xcodebuild -license

 All this was a result of the upgrade to Xcode 4.5.1 the other week.
 Version 4.5.1 (4G1004)

 xcode-select version 2311.
