 Which is quite different than 'su - -c port' ... the problem is with
 having a root login shell.  Notice all the paths that don't have a root
 login shell work fine (su, sudo -s, sudo port ..., su -c port ...) whereas
 root login shells are the problem (ssh root at localhost, su -, su - -c port
 ..., etc)

 So you now have a workaround (which coincidentally is more secure than
 your old way), and this issue is being tracked by Apple as
 <rdar://problem/12544215>.
