I suppose you run emacs-app on Lion or Mountain Lion. The current emacs-
app is built with a fullscreen patch by default, and the patch for Lion
and above seems to disable to display the dimensions of the window when
you resize it, unfortunately. If you build the port without the patch, you
will find emacs-app works as you expect.

There are several fullscreen patches available for Lion and above.
Although some of them won't break the functionality to display the
dimensions of the window, they display extra blank areas on top and bottom
in the fullscreen mode...
